Libraries not safe for children anymore

I remember the days when I could browse the library for books and leave my children to browse for themselves. I can't do that anymore. I have to ask my children to stay away from certain parts of the library. If you haven't heard about the case of the Librarian who was fired for reporting illegal activity, you should read:

I asked the librarian at our local branch, about the sinister nature of an incredibly graphic rape scene in one book. After one page, I was finished with the book. Are people so lost that they must turn to junk?
Our librarian was kind, read the book. Actually said it was inappropriate and not good. But she also offered that some people read that type of book, and it would stay on the shelves. I agree with her that pulling the book would be censorship. I will certainly censor it from my child. I read most of the books my 12yo reads, 1 to make sure it's not off the wall. 2: to have something to share with him.

I find it uplifting to read classics, autobiographies and non-fiction, which promotes the good in the world instead of focusing on the sadness. I know the sadness will never go away, but reading about good people makes me want to help, through volunteering or gifts of charity and mercy, so that the burdens are lifted on the poor, somewhat.

Who are the most qualified to be President?

Unfortunately, we may never know who is best qualified to BE president. For now, all we can go by is who is best qualified to RUN for president.

When a company chooses to hire a CEO, how do they choose? Do they choose the best spoken? Do they choose the most handsome? Do they choose the most likable?

My thought is that companies choose the most qualified person to be the CEO, based on how that person would best be able to reach the goals for the company set by the board of directors.

Does the United States of America have a board of directors....? Yes we do-we have about 350 million of them. That's what makes the process of running for office so tough. At most companies candidates deal with 8-12 board members, who for the the most part, objectively look at the CEO's performance; the performance of the company under his/her purview; and the fit of the candidate for the job.

The American people choose their CEO by sound bites, miss information and the color of their hair. Richard Nixon lost to John F. Kennedy in 1960 because Nixon did not use make-up and sweated under the lights during the debates. Sweat on a brow was enough to sway the public's perception of the man. Wow, are we shallow or what?

So, what can you as a voter do?
1. Pick up a newspaper and read about the candidates. Do you like Hillary's stance on the bailout of mortgagee's and banks? Do you like Obama's stance on raising taxes on the wealthy? Is your candidate trying to heal or divide America?

2. Get on the Internet and read the speeches. They are there verbatim. Do you like the words you hear? Are the words platitudes or previews of a new age?

3. Find the candidates' past voting records. What did they vote for or against.

Don't be lazy. Don't just say, "I hate all XXXXXXXXX's. Vote with your mind with a little help from your heart.

Hillary Under Fire for Sniper Comment

Hillary Clinton is under fire, for real this time, as she lied about coming under sniper fire during a trip to Bosnia. Clinton dismissed the lie by saying 'So I made a mistake, I'm human.' The lie was not a mistake, it was trying to misled the American People purposefully.
Do we want her on the phone at 3 a.m. lying to whomever is on the other side.
How will our allies feel when she offers our support? Will they believe her? Or is she just going to lie to the American people because we are stupid?
I feel sorry for her. Her coronation is not going as well as she thought. Ask yourself, do you really want the Clintons in the White House again?

The Purpose of Taxation is not Redistribution of Wealth

Have we lost, in America, our sense of pride and dignity? When I watch Congress and their petty fights among themselves; when I listen to the meaningless rhetoric of our supposed leaders, I am saddened. They are simply trying to maintain the status quo.
Think about this. President Clinton hasn’t held a private sector job in 30 years, and yet he is a millionaire many times over. Look at the wealth of our Congress, are they truly representative of their constituents?
Senator Obama is right when he says there needs to be change. I don’t believe taxation for the purpose of redistribution is the correct way to make that change. What incentive is there for someone who is going through hard times, to pull himself up by the bootstraps?
By delineating the difference between economic circumstance of the American People, Senator Obama is setting America up for civil unrest through class division.
A man, who was once told he shouldn’t charge fees, by a person on public assistance, because he was a doctor and rich, gave this definition of what it means to be wealthy.
“The day I stop working, and can maintain my current lifestyle is when I consider myself a wealthy man,” the doctor said. “You my friend are richer than me, because you do not work and your lifestyle continues to grow.”

Taxation should not be for the purpose of redistribution of earnings.

Senator Obama has made it clear that he does not want to represent all of America; but only those who are working people, to whom he wants to redistribute the wealth of those people who have earned their way.

Playground Politics

What does it mean when you have two politicians duking it out? Playground Politics!
At dinner, we generally go over how our day went. My youngest related the story of his recess. His friend decided what the rules would be and the kids were fine with that. But, when the boy lost the game, he said the rules were wrong. That everyone else was cheating.
My wife and I looked at each other and said 'That's Hillary.'
When everything looked fine, she was okay with playing within the rules. But now that she is losing, she says the rules were wrong. Playground politics.
When she won Ohio, she decided that her rules were the ones to play by. "I won Fla. I won Mich."
Saying it doesn't make it so, Hillary. You see. Obama will not be bullied. Obama will not back down. Playground politics only works when all the kids are fooled or scared.
Hillary, you're not fooling anyone.

Grazing on Taxpayers' Money

Stephen Gordon, Diamond G Ranch, a rancher Near Yellowstone, has voluntarily stopped grazing his cattle on Federal land. Previously, ranchers paid about $1.35 per month per animal. Now Gordon is getting $150,000 not to graze his animals.
This is sort of like getting paid not to grow something. A year-old bovine is worth about $1,300 to a butcher like Tyson. With 31 confirmed livestock kills since 1991 that runs to $2,600 loss per year. But Gordon said the actual kill is probably 'eight times' that number. But wouldn't we (taxpayers) have already paid for those through Gordon's tax deductions for "Livestock-known deaths, killed and missing?
How many cows has Gordon claimed in his tax deductions? Has he actually claimed 240+? That would come out to $312K in tax deductions since 1991.
With the $150K he's making on this deal, by not paying to graze on Federal Land, maybe Gordon should take up not farming on the land, too.

I need a tax cut

It's a Washington where George Bush hands out billions in tax cuts year after year to the biggest corporations and the wealthiest few who don't need them and don't ask for them - tax breaks that are mortgaging our children's future on a mountain of debt; tax breaks that could've gone into the pockets of the working families who needed them most.

Dear Senator Obama: Please define working families. Am I a working man if I only made $14,445 last year. What about if I made $80,000. Does that make me not ordinary?

Who wants to be ordinary? Do you, Senator Obama? Are you ordinary? Why are you so fixated on taking other peoples' money? Shouldn't people have to earn their way? You seem to be espousing the old hand out instead of hand up.

Tax breaks for the people who deserve them

Senator Obama said this in Houston:

And we're going to rollback those Bush tax cuts that went to all the wealthy people, and we're going to give tax cuts to ordinary families, people who are making less than $75,000. We will offset your payroll tax.
Senior citizens who make less than $50,000, we want to say to them: You don't have to pay an income tax. You're already having a hard time making ends meet.

Does this mean that anyone who makes more than $75,000 is not an ordinary family? Does this mean that those who work hard. Spend years in school, sacrificing their time with their family, don't deserve to be rewarded for their hard work?

So what is Obama saying to the person who came from nothing and takes pride in the ownership of his or her accomplishments?
"Thanks for the sacrifice. Now give me your money because the dropout with three kids needs it. Thanks for the time and effort you made to be a contributing part of the society. Now give me your money, you don't need or want it. I can use it to pay for the mortgage of a union worker who has no skills because the money was good right out of high school. He has a boat and a wide screen TV. You need to give him your money, I mean, our money, so he can afford cable. And then he will see what your money can do for him and he will vote for me. Just remember this Mr. Rich....The more you make-the more I will take. Make lots, okay?"
